It’s been a while since I posted anything about my ‘02 Miata. Not much has happen besides a few roadtrips, some new scars, one crankshaft replacement, a recent oil change that’s good for 15k miles, and a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! near Savanna, GA. Now, the ramen dieting has paid off, my quest continues to build the best NB Miata using !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
The most expensive addition to the car is this rare Mazdaspeed Miata mirror in Titanium Gray from an ‘04 or ‘05 MX-5. I put out a random WTB post on the Miata forum I frequent and a seller PM’d a day later with this beauty for 70$ with shipping included.
While Titanium Gray is the most common of the Mazdaspeed Miata colors, there were only 2366 produced. I was also considering a gloss black unit but those are rarer at only 413 produced.
In addition, I traded away my black and chrome interior trim for a set of silver trim from two different ‘03 cars. One was a rare ‘03 Shinsen model, of which only 1451 were built, found in a junkyard that provided the radio and shifter trim along with the silver-colored interior door handles. The vents and cluster trim were from a standard ‘03 wreck found behind Panic Motorsports in Columbia, SC (thanks again for letting me borrow tools to remove it all).
The black and chrome might be neat to guys wanting an old-school British roadster vibe but I think that’s best left to the ‘00-’01 SE NBs and the earlier NAs. Removing the vents was a pain but not only do they look newer, they don’t have the dreaded “eyeball droop” that plagues well-used ones!
This next upgrade was the cheapest, costing me only about 4$ at Walmart. Two of these oil-based pens. Why did I buy these?
T I R E L E T T E R I N G . This is the best way to waste 2.5 hours. It’s highly recommend you do this when the tires are off of the car. I did mine while rotating the tires for the winter. You can color the outlines with the wheels are still on the car but properly filling them in will require you to demount them.
The end result is absolutely stunning. These will make your tires stand out against the pavement. I think Luigi from Cars said it the best about contrasting tire colors.
It’ll take anywhere between 4 to 5 coats (allow up to 30 mins to dry depending on the temperature). I recommend the brand I pictured earlier, it seems to give the purest white out of the brands pop’s used on his Mustang.
It really helps give it that old-school retro vibe that the S197 platform heavily embraces for its styling cues.
If you have the means, then I highly recommend trying DIY tire lettering.
SOON~

Thanks for both! I’m keeping you in mind in case anything goes cosmetically wrong with mine!
